Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

I intend to replace all the fasteners and bolts I've removed with new, wherever possible. I have quite a collection of taptites and stainless steel bolts now. Theses arrived this morning too: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1830/29077705568_23fd91c960_b.jpg The captive fixing isn't as deep as the ori...

Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

Thanks. Yep, grille and valance are already off. I can see the 4 bolts that hold the main ironwork to the chassis rails. Are there any other bolts to remove to release the bumper? Or, just remove those 4, electrical and hoses - thank for reminder about that ( I'm quite used to that, given I've remov...

Brilliant, those pics help a lot 0-0

Thanks Ian, I didn't realise the bumper would come off the sides in that way. I'll give it a go :D

Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

Whilst awaiting the return of the oil cooler I've popped out as many dents as I can on the undertray and it's had the full POR15 prep and two coats of Grey POR 15 gloss. Whilst that was drying, I started to work on the rust on the chassis rails, pic before I started (luckily only surface rust at the...

^^ You'd think they'd have at least given it a quick clean before taking the pictures

Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

Oil cooler now with CRS to rebuild. Should take about a week to do. Cost was somewhat higher than I'd hoped, but as the guys there gave me some confidence in their workmanship - loads of great looking vintage rads to be seen - I decided to support what looks to be a good local business, rather than ...

Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

Thanks for the advice guys. The connectors are sound, no leaks in that area. There is a slight leak somewhere in the matrix in the area near the big dent, bottom in pic below (maybe that's a clue ;) ). I'm going to try and keep things as OEM as possible, so will see if a local rad repair specialist ...

Re: New here

A warm welcome to the forum Dave, and welcome also to the "pair of FB's Club" (see my sig below :D ). I have a pair of 1983 S2's, near identical twins (and an RX-8)! My story is similar to yours. I now have one FB undergoing a snail's pace amateur resto, whilst I spend my time trying to keep the oth...

Re: KIMI 2 - 1983 Series 2

Advice please. KIMI 2's oil cooler has sprung a leak. It's not from a connector. I've yet to get it out to see the source, but I'm thinking, do I get it repaired or replaced? Does anyone know of a source for new S2 coolers and/or places to get it repaired?

Thank you for popping by this afternoon Kevin - it was really to good to meet and chat to you.

I hope you get your Elford sorted out sooner rather than later. I can't imagine how frustrating it is for you to have been kept waiting so long :(
